The Need

From the desk of Jan Pinnington, CNC, Founder of Healthy Hands Cooking...

Our Mission:
To fight obesity and related illnesses by empowering and educating children and families in the critical skill of nutrition and healthy cooking so that they can make informed decisions for a lifetime of wellness. To teach others through educational classes and a network of trained and certified self-employed cooking instructors who enjoy preparing and eating REAL Good Food.

How Do We Achieve our Mission? Community Partners
We partner with companies and organizations that share our concern for today's health crisis.

HHC Community Partners typically provide a clean space with access to a sink and garbage can and help by co-marketing the classes to their audience to help spread the word.

There is no cost or manpower required by our Community Partners.

All HHC Instructors provide the students, curriculum, lesson plans, recipes, food, simple appliances, and interactive handouts.

HHC classes are limited to a 10:1 student to instructor ratio for quality and safety purposes.

What's Our Story?
This is best shared in the form of a question.

Have you ever noticed how eating at restaurants used to be an occasional way to celebrate special events, but is now an everyday occurrence in many lives?

Have you noticed that one in three children is now overweight or obese which is proven to lead to long term disease, poor quality of life and low elf-esteem?

If so, you’re not alone…

FACT: This generation of children is NOT expected to outlive their parents!

And this fact isn’t something I made up…it isn’t even my own research… it’s official.

That’s right…recently posted by the NY Times…Children's Life Expectancy Being Cut Short by Obesity

In fact, the American Heart Association calls childhood obesity the number one health concern among parents – topping drug abuse and smoking!

So if we decide to do nothing, we are faced with a sadly preventable and worrisome future for our children.

What we’re doing as a nation isn’t working. We now know that fast food and processed food is proven to be very addictive and many of us don’t believe we can stop.

We didn’t do anything wrong…

We started using packaged foods, convenience foods, and drive-thrus as our means for a quick meal, but as a result, the skill of healthy cooking isn’t being passed down the way it once was from generation to generation. We don’t even have home economics in schools anymore.

That leaves us relying on the big food industry to provide our food for us. And that means we immediately lose control of the ingredients, how our food is made, and what effects some of these harmful ingredients may have on our bodies.

In fact, one of our first cooking students had NO IDEA that mashed potatoes came from potatoes! He thought they could only come from a box!!!

Alarming as this may sound, it happens more than you think. Recent studies are showing that we now have 2 full generations of families who don’t know how to cook – a lifetime skill that is so very important but is being lost.

So how do we get around these overwhelming facts?

How do we take back our health and our future, and turn our spare time into doing something that helps solve this problem while generating an income for our families?

There is an answer, and that’s exactly what we’re all about…

Home Cooks just like YOU are teaching kids & families how to prepare healthy foods and earning an income doing it!

We have discovered that we CAN teach young people to make good food choices. We CAN inspire them to love fruits and vegetables. Not by forcing canned peas down their throats, but by showing how delicious healthy food can be.

At Healthy Hands Cooking, our goal is to help you inspire others with simple, healthy lessons and tools. Our team of nutritionists, teachers, and parents will provide you with delicious, fun, and interactive lessons to demonstrate healthy cooking.

To us, nutrition isn't about being perfect. It's about setting ourselves up to win by making lots of small, positive choices. You don't have to be a culinary master to be healthy. You don't have to eat weird stuff you've never heard of before. You don't have to stop enjoying food. You don't even have to spend a lot of money. But you do need to make one crucial choice: to eat REAL, good, food.

Since 2012, we have helped hundreds of instructors across the United States use our method to teach thousands of kids and families to eat real good food. We invite you to join us and help change the story of health for our generation and their future.

"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed, citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has". - Margaret Mead
